VOLUNTEER

VOLUNTEERS MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE

The Be A Leader Volunteer program has been designed to provide interested individuals with the opportunity to choose the level of commitment and time that they are able to contribute to Be A Leader and our students. Volunteers play a critical part in the educational evolution of our students by sharing lessons learned from their own educational and professional journeys. Whether it’s volunteering once a month at one of our program workshops or supporting a small group of high school seniors through the college and scholarship application process, our volunteers make all the difference!

“After graduating from high school and transitioning to college, I had a deep desire to encourage the next generation of students to pursue a post-secondary education. The Be A Leader Foundation has given me the opportunity to be a Coach for their Senior Boot Camp where I am able to mentor bright and curious minds on various topics that are cornerstones to a student’s success. I feel privileged to be able to meet and interact with each student because they have taught me what it means to be a humble, yet impactful and resourceful mentor and aspiring professional.”

Vanesa Contreras - Senior Boot Camp Coach,

CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

In the Spring, we ask professionals in the community to participate in our Career Roundtables event. Here’s how it works: You will be seated at a table with a handful of students. You’ll have an opportunity to tell the students about your current professional role and how you got to where you are now (academics, training, mentorship, experiences, etc.). Students will then have the opportunity to ask you questions about your profession. After 10 minutes, the whistle blows and students rotate and have the opportunity to speak to another professional…and you’ll have the opportunity to speak to a new group of students! There will be approximately 6-7 rotations. It is a fun, exciting way for students to explore career possibilities.

Career guest speaker opportunities are designed to provide students with a deeper and richer understanding of careers in various sectors. Through these opportunities , students engage with local professionals, providing them with a real-world sense of what their college and careers will entail.

A critical component of the Senior Boot Camp is our Coaches Program. The program allows Coaches to choose the level of commitment they are realistically able to contribute to a student while juggling their personal and professional lives. You will provide students with individualized Coaching during this critical transition period of their educational journey – the 12th grade transition into college. Coaches are asked to work one-on-one with high school seniors at workshops and assist them throughout their “college going process.” It is our goal that through one-on-one interactions, Coaches will be able to build long lasting relationships, to help guide students during a crucial point in their academic lives.

Multiple Opportunities (August – May) 8-10 Hours Monthly Commitment.
