Edgar Avina

Edgar is the Coordinator of Senior Boot Camp, one of the Be A Leader Foundation’s oldest flagship programs. As part of his role, he leads a cohort of high school seniors through a year-long sequence of programming that includes monthly in-person sessions, a mix of supplementary virtual sessions, and one-on-one check-ins. His sessions cover everything from college admissions to financial aid, scholarships, personal statement writing, and FAFSA.

Prior to joining Be A Leader Foundation, Edgar has enjoyed several other opportunities to work in education. He was a Math teacher for Breakthrough Philadelphia in 2015, a peer tutor for the New Haven Public Schools in 2017 and a Science teacher for the Houston Independent School District in 2018. Edgar is a first-generation college graduate with a bachelor’s degree from Yale University in Education Studies. He enjoys working one on one with students and supporting them as they follow their educational aspirations.
