Joseph Cobbs

Joseph comes into the Be A Leader Foundation with two years of data management and reporting experience and is excited to help people learn to work with and love data. As a former AVID student, he is grateful for the opportunity to help others receive the same help that he did in starting his path towards college.

Born in San Diego California Joseph grew up playing Football and running around with his friends. He graduated from the University of California, Riverside with a degree in Political Science. There he helped start a student movement on-campus to raise awareness about the ongoing immigration crisis called the Alliance for Immigration Reform. As Co-chair of the Alliance for Immigration Reform he worked to organize an on-campus summit on immigration. He went out into the community to raise awareness of the event, led a class of forty other fellow students in organizing the event, and worked with the dean of his college and other campus staff in hosting the summit.

After college, Joseph served America as an AmeriCorps member for two years in two different states. First, he moved out to Montana from California where he served in the state Department of Justice. There he worked to improve outcomes for children in the foster care system. Finishing his first year of service in Montana, Joseph moved to Phoenix where he served as an AmeriCorps VISTA Leader with HandsOn Greater Phoenix. As a VISTA Leader Joseph managed, recruited, and trained a VISTA team of twelve different members. He also led different volunteer projects across the valley and learned that he loves nonprofits where he continues to work today.
